In thoughts today

I’m in thoughts today after I heard the news about the crash of the Air France flight. My thoughts go out to all those who lost family and friends.

Too many windows

This is my desktop from time to time: extended, using spaces and still… too many windows. Too much clutter.

I’ve tried getting rid of it, but I always keep falling into bad habits. But as long as it doesn’t mess up my workflow, it’s all good to me. Clutter doesn’t always need to be bad… maybe it works inspiring… ?

New York new adopted rules for photography

Shooting on location in the US/New York is always fun, exhausting, complex and sometimes TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE. Or so it turned out to be since 2007.

However, the city of New York has revised and adopted their rules for permits on photography and filmmaking in the streets of New York:

“Under the adopted rules, a permit would be required for filming if equipment or vehicles, as defined in the rule, are used or if the person filming asserts exclusive use of City property. Equipment does not include hand-held devices (such as hand-held film, still, or television cameras or videocameras) or tripods used to support such cameras, but a permit would be required in certain situations when the person filming asserts exclusive use of City property while using a hand-held device.

So when can you get away without having a permit?

“A permit is not required for filming that uses hand-held cameras or tripods and does not assert exclusive use of City property. Standing on a street, walkway of a bridge, sidewalk, or other pedestrian passageway while using a hand-held device and not otherwise asserting exclusive use of City property is not an activity that requires a permit. In addition, activity that involves the filming of a parade, rally, protest or demonstration does not require a permit except when equipment or vehicles are used. The rules also provide that press photographers, who are credentialed by the New York Police Department (NYPD) do not need to obtain a MOFTB permit.

On the train again…

This time, I wasn’t reading any comics. But I was stunned by the fact that it would only cost me 1.39 € to surprise my mum.

Still can’t figure out what the ad was about…

Old Photos

One thing I love about old photos is that the older they get, the more interesting their stories become.

Tell me, what story does this picture tell you?

Camera-eating-dog

Meet Bugsy.

He’s cute, full of life, loves his walks and… like camera’s and lenses…. to chew on.

Here’s a tip: never take a picture from (too) up close from a dog that likes fish‘eyes’.

Airports. Hotels. Cabs.

I sometimes get the feeling that I’m in transit all of the time. When you get to that point that almost every week you go through the same ritual over and over again, it almost feels like you’re never leaving the airport: airport, cab/rental car, hotel, job, hotel, car/rental, airport, transit, airport, cab/rental car, hotel, airport…

At least we get to see the world from airport windows…

Instant tan on set

I made my make-up artist (MUA) happy the other day. (or so I think)

It’s not everyday you get to ‘tan’ a pro athlete’s torso, no? That’s what happened to Daisy when we were shooting with 10 times MX World Champion Stefan Everts.

The Final Countdown (1980)

Oh man! This is a classic!

The other day I was taking a lazy day “off” and found this old movie on directed by Don Taylor starring Kirk Douglas, Martin Sheen, James Farentino and Katharine Ross. (Check Wikipedia here)

It’s fascinating how in 1980 the writers of this script came up with the idea of a vortex taking an aircraft carrier back in time. Back to 1 day before the Japanese fleet attacked Pearl Harbor.

A splendid story (certainly for that time).
